We are usually 1:1. Sometimes 2:1, and it isn't unusual to be told that you will be the "next double" when a new admission comes in if you have an easier assignment. Then it is up to you and your buddy nurse to decide who will be doubled and who will do the admission. If someone is really freeking sick, they might be 2:1, but that is rare.

We occasionally will even have two nurses for one patient. I am forever grateful for the abundance of 1:1 nursing care in my ICU!

HAH! 1:1.. That's a good one. Yerrr a funny guy.
Even on a level 1 trauma unit I worked on. We got 2:1. both intubated. one on CRRT. Maybe one swanned.
Only got 'singled' when they were REALLY sick. Like on the rotoprone bed, CRRT, internal cooling system, EVD, brain monitoring. whole shabang.
LOL
1:1..
funny guy.
