Would I take the pill: No WAY! Serious after the grief that was my teens and early 20′s to take a pill and reverse it all AND have to learn a whole new social milieu (and anatomy). Forget it. I don’t have time anymore to get all emo again…

Wow, what a tough question. It took me years and years to finally feel comfortable in my own skin and learn to respect myself. I often sometimes wonder how things would be different in my life if I was straight but alas, one will never know and it’s fruitless (bad pun) to even bother pondering that scenario. The only thing I would want to know is how my relationships with my family would be different. A lot of my relationships with my family changed when I came out. I still feel some awkward undertones when I’m around some of my family members (although, these are the same ones that aren’t ecstatic about me quitting my job and going back to school either).

At this point in my life, I wouldn’t want to change a thing. After all, I wouldn’t be who I am today without all of the tragedy that took place during my “coming out” years.

Now, if you were to ask me the same question 15 years ago, i’d have a way different answer. :-)

Sean – great post, very thought provoking!!

Taking the pill today would not change or alter past events. You would still have those experiences that helped you grow and learn important life lessons archived in your memory.

I think this is a personal issue and should remain personal if some sort of intervention is discovered and produced. Some have a harder time enduring their sexuality or ever accepting it, and not all experiences are equal. Some may never accept it. This would free them from this burden that others would consider benigh.
